Aaron Koblin: Artfully visualizing our humanity
Artist Aaron Koblin takes vast amounts of data -- and at times vast numbers of people -- and weaves them into stunning visualizations. From elegant lines tracing airline flights to landscapes of cell phone data, from a Johnny Cash video assembled from crowd-sourced drawings to the "Wilderness Downtown" video that customizes for the user, his works brilliantly explore how modern technology can make us more human.

Branding Peru
“No images were used for the new logo. The word Peru is enough, according to the campaign. It is uniquely short for a country name, it has a universal pronunciation, and the accent mark over the letter “u” stands out.”
“Starting April 26, the brand will be promoted in a campaign within Peru. Then the hope is that shortly after consumers around the world will begin seeing the Peru brand on an array of Peruvian-grown foods and manufactured goods.”

Change +: Leslie Witt, “The Illusion of Neutrality”
"In design there is no neutrality. You're either help to create the problem or contributing to the solution."
Change +: Leslie Witt, “The Illusion of Neutrality” from IDEO on Vimeo.
"As credit cards are increasingly vilified - treated as a disease, demanding abstention - the question must be asked - ‘how did something so neutral become so polarized?’. We believe that it’s this neutrality, or illusion of neutrality, which is at the heart of the problem. The illusion of neutrality and the lack of personal control which is it’s bedfellow, isn’t unique to credit cards, nor to the financial service industry. From big box retailers who see themselves as simply the bridge from supplier to purchaser, to utility companies who envision their service as one of pipes and nodes - a sense of identity as infrastructure allows industries to avoid implication in the range of unhealthy and unsustainable behaviors that permeate our now. You can’t be Switzerland in this battle, and it’s important to pick which side you’re on. Design can help you step out of the shadow of neutrality and tread into the choppy waters of behavior change."

No Logo Brands Globalization Resistance
Video visionado na aula de 09/12/2010.
There's a bad mood rising against the corporate brands. No Logo is the warning on the label.
In the last decade, No Logo has become a cultural manifesto for the critics of unfettered capitalism worldwide. As the world faces a second economic depression, No Logo's analysis of our corporate and branded world is as timely and powerful as ever.
Equal parts cultural analysis, political manifesto, mall-rat memoir, and journalistic exposé, No Logo is the first book to put the new resistance into pop-historical and clear economic perspective. It tells a story of rebellion and self-determination in the face of our new branded world.O transcript pode ser consultado aqui (http://www.mediaed.org/assets/products/115/transcript_115.pdf)
O site da autora pode ser consultado aqui (http://www.naomiklein.org/no-logo). O livro "No Logo: No
Space, No Choice, No Jobs" encontra-se disponível na biblioteca da faculdade.

Design Obama
O livro Designing Obama encontra-se disponível at http://digital.designing-obama.com/.
The Obama presidential campaign was innovative. For the first time in American politics, a candidate used art and design to bring together the American people—capturing their voices in a visual way.
The Design Director of the Obama campaign, Scott Thomas, has collaborated with artists and designers to create Designing Obama, a chronicle of the art and design from the historic campaign. Get the inside story on how design was used by the campaign, and scope out the pieces, created unofficially, by grassroots supporters.
The 360-page book is full-color and hardbound, highly crafted with an embossed sleeve. Forewords written by Steven Heller and Michael Bierut.

Dubbed a strategic and smart campaign by Fast Company, the Obama brand has received much recognition not only within the design community, but also throughout the nation and abroad. Sol Sender and Scott Thomas, creators of the official Obama logo and Web site, will describe their experiences developing this historic political brand. The event features a special exhibition of posters from Threadless Loves Democracy, a challenge to design the most unique and conceptual call to vote, sponsored by Sappi Fine Paper, Threadless, Rock the Vote, and Jones Soda. The conversation will be moderated by Paul Schmelzer, editor of the Minnesota Independent news site, author of the blog Eyeteeth, and contributor to Adbusters, Cabinet, Ode, Utne Reader, and other journals focusing on the intersection of art, media, and politics.
